Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is a favorite location to visit for artistic inspiration and to see all the wildlife that nests there, rests there on their migrations or feeds there. This scene is off the main drive and very isolated. On Sunday I was blessed to see several bald eagles soaring over this marsh. The solitude, the peace and freedom to be spoke to me and was the inspiration for this painting. I began with an underpainting of hard pastel and odorless mineral spirits and finished with my softer to softest pastels.
